...Hey, Hibiki. I... noticed something, looking through old posts, and... I think we've got a problem. Again.

We think there are four of us, right? You, me, the purple one, and the short yellow one? But... if that's the case, who are the other two? I could see the purple one being that tall purple-haired girl that was with us, in that one video. And the yellow one... could be Ako, if I wanted to really push what made any sense. But then... who is that black Cure that's been showing up? It can't be either of those two.

So we're back to square one. Again.

Ugh, just when you think things will be EASY, they aren't. She calls herself Cure Muse but she's completely different from all of the other Precure.

And I didn't think there was another black-colored Precure since Nagisa...

She's... really not like any of the other Precure, no. I mean, all the rest of us are at least a little open. Even that one that isn't a Precure anymore - Tsukikage-san? - is still reasonable, except to some of the Precure in her world. This Cure Muse is... it's almost like she doesn't want to talk to us at all. It's not... Precure-like.

And no, we've all been colored. Mostly pink, blue, purple, and yellow, with the occasional green or red, and those only in big teams. I can't say I've met or heard of - other than Black, White, and myself - a single Precure that didn't use those colors.

The name throws me off too. Muse is the goddess of inspiration and music, from Greek Mythology. Isn't that what we were told?

I think we nee to look at people who aren't part of our usual circle. What if this is a whole new Precure who didn't continue into the events that Ayumi keeps showing us? What if she retired or something?

... maybe we should look at the people who are close to us a little more carefully now. Cause the body type is definitely a older teenager, or a young adult.

Well, that makes sense, doesn't it? [She points at Hibiki, then herself.] Melody, Rhythm... Muse fits. They're all music terms. I don't know what the blue one's name is, though, or the yellow one.

I don't think we're going to get anywhere trying to work backwards like this. As much as being able to know our future is nice, we're just going to have to play this straight. We'll find out sooner or later, right?

No doubt. We'll have to keep an eye out for those ones at least.

Mmm... I think so. As much as Ayumi's world is similar to ours, it's really different too. We can't rely on it yet.

We'll find them. [Kanade sighs heavily.] The only thing we can take for certain is that we will have more teammates, which is good, because we need the help, but... who knows when that will happen?

I know, really. There's way too much going on, and it's not like we've got a good track record for finding teammates right now.

No, we don't. We barely could keep each other as teammates for a while there. Maybe now that we can actually talk to each other without making other people take cover, things'll go better.

You mean before I kiss you and tell you you're overthinking it. [tease tease tease.]

Okay then. You're overthinking it again.

I'm sure once we find out who this Black Cure Muse is, we'll be neck-deep in trouble again. It's pretty obvious.

We're always neck-deep in trouble. That isn't new for us. It's just a different kind of trouble every day or three.

Let's make a deal. I won't worry about this if you won't. We'll just take it as it comes. Okay, Hibiki?

Deal. I think we could both use the stress relief of that.

There is... but whenever she shows up, she seems to just totally ignore Melody and Rhythm, unless they're about to be defeated outright. It's very odd. It's not like the other Precure, and that bothers me for some reason.

[Even from the outside looking in, it's still really weird.]

That person... just doesn't fit the profile. I wonder what her story is?

That sounds really strange. Not at all like the other Precure on the community, nor the ones in my town. Do you think she might be an enemy?

I'm not sure... then again, what enemy keeps her foes from losing? There just isn't enough information.

The other question is... is this black Cure extremely powerful, or are Melody and Rhythm just weak?

There could be lots of reasons for that. She might even be an enemy to the Precure's enemies and the Precure themselves. There's no way to know yet.

I don't know enough about them to say anything about that, I'm afraid. I do have a question of my own, if that's alright... [Setsuna does her best to look as innocent as possible.] Why do you care so much about what's going on with the Precure?

I guess we'll find out one way or another...

[Kanade grimaces; even though she is Rhythm, her answer doesn't change, it's just in third-person.]

Because without the Precure, Kanon Town - and any of the other places the Precure live - is in serious trouble. I know I can't fight one of those monsters, and I don't want to have to leave my home - or live in fear - because of that. There's a reason the Precure are idolized. We need them.

Right, I'm sure the truth will come to light eventually. Let's hope it will be soon.

I see. That does make sense, I guess. I don't have the exact same feeling, because I live in a very secluded area where monsters never show up, even if my town is often under attack. I never really have to worry.

One more question, though... What did you mean in your post, when you said that you think 'there are four of us'? And why would this black Cure be one of those?

I'm glad. There's a lot of risk when those things show up... it's a big problem.

[Kanade freezes for just a moment, looking for a way to argue out of that.]

The future is an interesting thing... A virus a little while back showed Hibiki and I spending time with two other girls, and we've been kind of able to narrow down who they are, though we haven't met them yet as far as our "present" is concerned. But... that girl seems to know us, but she glares at us at the same time whenever we see her. It's weird. And like I was saying before, it's very... un-Precure-like.

It really is. It's good that our world has heroes like the Precure to defend it.

[Setsuna smiles innocently. Yeah, that's a pretty weak argument there Kanade, but Setsuna will go along with it anyway.] Ah, I see. It must be really interesting to get to see your future like that. But you should really be careful, if this Precure is glaring at you... She might be dangerous.

Heroes... yeah, it's a good thing. [There's a bit of a hollow response there. It wasn't that long ago that Kanade wanted to quit.]

She might be... I'm trying not to think about that. What kind of person is so cavalier to such important people? It's like she doesn't even care. I... have a problem with that.

...is something wrong, Minamino-san?

That's understandable. It's what makes me afraid she might really be an enemy. If she's not... Then I don't know, maybe she has her reasons. But you should probably stay far away from her, just in case.

No... well, maybe. It's just that I kind of... up until recently, I just felt so down all the time. Like something was missing. I'm getting better, mostly because Hibiki and I made up, but that word... "heroes"... it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. A "hero" is someone that fights without regard for her own problems, because the things she fights for are more important. But what happens when your own problems are more important? Do you just... push them aside and suffer through them? Or do you leave the hero business to someone else until you're ready again? Not that my problems are so... big. It's just been bugging me.

[She sighs.] I sure hope she has reasons. Otherwise, we're in trouble. A Precure team that can't do its job is a liability, to all of us. Believe me, I want nothing to do with her, whether she's trying to help or not.

Hm, that's an interesting question. Problems like that are already a big deal, but when it comes to Precure... Well, they're responsible for a lot, aren't they? They have to protect a lot of people. But if they're too busy worrying about other things, then they're not as effective at that, are they? So maybe... someone who worries more about their own problems, rather than the lives they have to defend... Who feels their own problems are more important... Maybe someone like that shouldn't even be a hero at all? [Setsuna looks thoughtful.] It's a difficult situation, but that's just what I think.

If things get too bad, maybe someone from the community should look into this black Cure? They might be able to help.

[Kanade is prepared enough to distance herself from the vague critique... but it still hurts. Still though...]

It's a little different from what I need for myself, but... you may be right. A hero... needs to be someone who can put herself aside, or work through her own problems. But at the same time... heroes are people too. We need to be able to give them some space, right?

And I think we're just going to let this whole thing with that black Precure work itself out. We're civilians, after all. What business do we have looking for that answer?

[Outright lies: one.]

That's a nice way of looking at it, but heroes are responsible for so many lives. So they can't really get the space they need to work through their problems like normal people. So the only people who can really be heroes are the ones who can always put others before themselves, no matter how difficult it is. That's why not just anyone becomes one.

[Setsuna smiles reassuringly.] Of course, that's just me speculating. I'm not a hero myself, after all, so I don't know how I'd deal with those kinds of problems. Maybe I'm completely wrong.

Alright, that's a good idea. But if she ever starts to cause trouble for you, you should ask for help on the community. I hope you won't have to, of course, but you never know.

Hmm... I'll have to think on this for a little bit. It's not really a simple topic. But thank you for your opinion. I'll give it some more consideration.

And if that black Precure becomes a problem, the community will be the first to know.

...the Dark Precure's there?!

Dark Precure? Um, this Precure's got a black outfit, and she's really tall, and she seems pretty light on special attacks. And she's very powerful.

What's your Dark Precure like?

Black outfit, really tall, very powerful... but uses some of our attacks. She can use our Floral Power Fortissimo attack without a partner...

I don't think that's it, then. None of her attacks are like ours at all, and she doesn't have anything to let her finish off enemies - she leaves right when the enemies are almost defeated and makes us finish them off. It's... really weird.

[Whew, big sigh of relief there! That would have been worrisome if it was the Dark Precure...]

...that is weird, but I'm glad it's not the Dark Precure. The last time we fought her, we got really lucky...

You know, it seems like you girls have more problems than we do, and that's saying something. Of course, we just argue so much that our powers suffer for it. It's almost like the deck is stacked against the three of you.

It really does. It feels like every time something good happens, there's always something worse right behind it...

You hold up pretty well, all things considered. Hibiki and I have a bad tendency of going to pieces when something happens.
